“FROM THE ASHES” BOOK STUDY ON ZOOM (week two)

February 9, 2021 @ 7:00 am 8:00 pm

As part of Stouffville United’s response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, we are continuing our exploration of the voices of indigenous authors in Canada.

Join Rev. Elizabeth in reading “From the Ashes: My story of Being Metis, Homeless, and Finding My Way”, by Jesse Thistle.  Jesse Thistle is Metis-Cree, from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He is assistant professor in Metis Studies at York University in Toronto.

Rev. Elizabeth says, “This book was heart wrenching to read. Jesse’s journey takes him through horrendous obstacles of racism, addiction, homelessness, and prison. I have a lot to answer for in my whiteness that is a big part of the system that caused Jesse such suffering.”

When: 4 Week Book Study
Tuesdays in February 2, 9, 17*, and 23rd from 7 to 8 pm
*please note this is a Wednesday evening
